A long history of fighting for the future

As this year winds down, we are looking to 2020, which will be a milestone year for us – our 40th Anniversary. A philanthropist and prominent business leader was just remarking the other day that it seems as though many of Philadelphia’s finest non-profits were founded right around 1980. Whatever sparked such civic pride and collective action, we are proud to be among such hallowed rankings.

We have long enjoyed a reputation of being a fearless leader on children’s issues – adaptive, nimble, credible and successful.

We do the hard things, because they are the right things to do. This year was no exception:

  • This year, as our hearts broke when the Trump Administration put immigrant children in detention centers,  we turned our heart-break into action and launched a campaign in PA to permit undocumented children to enroll in CHIP so they can be healthy and thrive as they grow up in our communities.
  • We don’t give up easily, and that’s perhaps most true when it comes to ending childhood lead poisoning.  Our work began twenty years ago and grew into an ambitious policy agenda that culminated this year with City Council passing the toughest lead paint bill in the country
  • This summer, we demanded that the School District use some of its’ surplus to make our schools safe. Our demand was heeded–the District is putting real resources behind building repairs.  But it’s simply not enough. That’s why we went to Harrisburg this week to pressure the Governor and lawmakers to do the same.

After 40 years, we remain true to our roots with your support, moral and financial. The upcoming year will be full of celebration and hard work – just the way we like it!

Thank you for being part of our PCCY family—we could not be as successful as we are without you.  As the year comes to a close, we hope you will include PCCY in your end of year giving

Happy and Healthy Holidays!

“Pennsylvania is violating the Constitution. This is a constitutional crisis. People think there’s one in Washington? There’s one right here, right now!” Donna Cooper, on the Commonwealth’s failure to fund its public education system, at this week’s Rally to End Toxic Schools.
