Give Kids a Smile Day… Take 2 – Examiner.com – April 1, 2011

As promised, here is your update on the event you’ve been grinding your teeth in great anticipation over (teeth grinding is not recommended). It’s “Give Kids a Smile Day” on Thursday April 21, 2011. That means it’s time for cleanings, sealants, and fillings—Oh My! Kids in Philadelphia can receive FREE dental care on this conveniently rescheduled date since Philadelphia public schools will be closed to students.

5 Reasons you should care about your child’s dental health:

  • Dental work can be costly!
  • Good dental hygiene is crucial for overall good health.
  • Cavity free mouth is a pain-free zone.
  • No decay means no stank-ay (incredibly stinky foul odor).
  • Bright and healthy smiles are aesthetically pleasing for all to view. (Very rarely to you hear, “I want to kiss the yuck-mouth of someone who has super yellow teeth with ample decay.”)

Dentists participating in this special event will provide some of the following services for FREE:

  • FREE screenings (assesses your child’s dental health and a treatment plan is determined if necessary)
  • FREE sealants (extra protection against cavities and potential decay)
  • FREE cleanings (which should be repeated every 6 months).  Some dentists will also take it to the next level and perform fillings on cavities.

Steps you need to take to give your kid a smile: Call Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY) at 215.563.5848 ext 32 to find a “Give Kids a Smile Day” participating dentist for your child’s visit on Thursday April 21, 2011.

You’ll have to schedule an appointment as usual, but make sure you mention you’re interested in your child receiving FREE dental care.  You can also access the Oral Health Resource Guide publication, which lists dentists who provide FREE or worthwhile discounts every day of the year. (The guide is published in both English and Spanish. Scroll down to the “Health” section to access it.)

Speaking as a mother who knows firsthand, PCCY works to help children maintain healthy smiles. After $1900 worth of dental work performed with NO out of pocket cost as a result of contacting PCCY for assistance, my youngest child smiles brightly with confidence. Give your kid a smile too
