SUMMARY:No More Dreams Deferred Webinar
DESCRIPTION:No More Dreams Deferred \nA groundbreaking regional conversation about Black and Hispanic students in Bucks\, Chester\, Delaware and Montgomery Counties \n \nThis event launches PCCY’s report about Black and Hispanic students in the Southeast Pennsylvania suburbs. \nLearning disparities among Black and Hispanic students is an equity problem\, not an “urban” problem. PCCY’s new research\, for the first time ever\, reveals the problems of and solutions to the entrenched racial problems in Philly’s suburban districts. \nNearly a quarter of all students in the 61 school districts in Bucks\, Chester\, Delaware\, and Montgomery counties are Black or Hispanic\, and they are less likely to be placed in rigorous classes and more likely to face harsh disciplinary action. They are less likely to have access to academic support services and more likely to be economically segregated. These factors all take a profound educational and emotional toll. \nJoin PCCY and a panel of experts to hear more about the problems facing Black and Hispanic students and learn some real world solutions. \nPanel 1:  Problems – Black and Hispanic students are carrying a heavy load. \n\nNelly Jimenez-Arevalo\, Executive Director\, CEO\, ACLAMO\nHarold Jordan\, Senior Policy Advocate\, ACLU\nChristopher Rogers\, Black Lives Matter at School\n\n\nPanel 2: Solutions – Here’s how we lift those burdens for Black and Hispanic students and create an educational system that works for them. \n\nRev. Maxcine Collier\, Education Committee Chair\, Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity\nAndrea Custis\, President and CEO\, The Urban League of Philadelphia\nAngelique Hinton\, President\, Greater Norristown NAACP\nStephen Rodriguez\, Superintendent of Schools\, Pottstown School District\n\nFeaturing: \n\nKaren Farmer White\, Chairperson of the Pennsylvania State Board of Education\nCall to Action: Andrea Custis\, President and CEO\, The Urban League of Philadelphia
