After years of underfunding by Harrisburg, the School District of Philadelphia is facing a $300 million deficit. If these cuts go through, 340 school staff will lose their jobs. That means fewer teachers, counselors, and climate staff, and larger class sizes for students. But there’s a solution. Mayor Cherelle Parker is proposing a $1 per ride fee on ultra-wealthy rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft that would generate enough revenue to save all 340 school jobs!
