SUMMARY:Fair Funding Lawsuit Rally in Harrisburg
DESCRIPTION:Pennsylvania’s Historic FAIR FUNDING Trial starts in November! Are you ready to make history with us? After seven years of fighting for fair education funding\, Pennsylvania’s students will finally have their day in court. \nYou’ve fought with us to fund our schools. You’ve spoken up to ensure that every Pennsylvania public school student has a thorough and efficient education. Now it’s time to come together to show our support and watch history unfold. There’s lots of ways to be involved: \n1. Join us for a Statewide Rally on Friday\, November 12th at noon on the front steps of the Pennsylvania State Capitol. Bring your own bell – and all your friends and family – to ring the bells of justice as we march toward the courthouse. Sign up as an individual or an organization here and share the rally flyer to get your friends and family to sign up too. \n2. Host a watch party. Because of COVID safety protocols we can’t be in the courtroom\, but we can still come together to watch this extraordinary trial. Register for one of the Watch Party dates and witness history in the making. \n3. Harness the enthusiasm around the court case and bring a small group or organization to Harrisburg for rallies or legislative visits. The trial will last for at least two months\, so there’s ample time to use this case as a way to connect with lawmakers. \nIt’s a very exciting time to be an education advocate in Pennsylvania! The court’s decision could radically improve the lives of millions of children and shape our commonwealth’s future for generations to come.

SUMMARY:67 Years Later\, Still Miles to Go Before We Rest
DESCRIPTION:We honor the anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education with a call to make right the racial inequities and massive underfunding in Pennsylvania’s education system that denies opportunity to thousands of students.  \nJust as Brown v. Board of Education changed the lives of students of color\, we have a chance to make historic change for Pennsylvania’s students\, especially Black\, Hispanic\, and low-income children.  \nPennsylvania ranks 44th in the country in the state’s share of funding for public schools; only about 39% of the costs of public education are covered by the state. There is a lawsuit underway that may remedy these problems but there’s much to do to achieve true education equity. \nStand with PCCY and other education advocates as we demand an end to the systemic inequities in school funding that still exist and that rob our students and communities of opportunity. \nRegister here for our lunchtime Zoom event and let’s honor the work that’s come before us by committing to do our part for the future.

SUMMARY:No More Dreams Deferred Webinar
DESCRIPTION:No More Dreams Deferred \nA groundbreaking regional conversation about Black and Hispanic students in Bucks\, Chester\, Delaware and Montgomery Counties \n \nThis event launches PCCY’s report about Black and Hispanic students in the Southeast Pennsylvania suburbs. \nLearning disparities among Black and Hispanic students is an equity problem\, not an “urban” problem. PCCY’s new research\, for the first time ever\, reveals the problems of and solutions to the entrenched racial problems in Philly’s suburban districts. \nNearly a quarter of all students in the 61 school districts in Bucks\, Chester\, Delaware\, and Montgomery counties are Black or Hispanic\, and they are less likely to be placed in rigorous classes and more likely to face harsh disciplinary action. They are less likely to have access to academic support services and more likely to be economically segregated. These factors all take a profound educational and emotional toll. \nJoin PCCY and a panel of experts to hear more about the problems facing Black and Hispanic students and learn some real world solutions. \nPanel 1:  Problems – Black and Hispanic students are carrying a heavy load. \n\nNelly Jimenez-Arevalo\, Executive Director\, CEO\, ACLAMO\nHarold Jordan\, Senior Policy Advocate\, ACLU\nChristopher Rogers\, Black Lives Matter at School\n\n\nPanel 2: Solutions – Here’s how we lift those burdens for Black and Hispanic students and create an educational system that works for them. \n\nRev.
