SUMMARY:Celebration of the 2023 Champion for Children
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Celebration of the 2022 Children First “Champion for Children” \nhonoring \nKelvin A. Jeremiah\, President and CEO\, The Philadelphia Housing Authority\n\n \nOn the evening of Thursday\, May 18\, 2023\, Children First will shine a spotlight on Kelvin A. Jeremiah\, President and CEO of the Philadelphia Housing Authority and a transformative leader who puts children first\, knowing that it takes more than just a physical place to live for children to thrive. \nKelvin has gone above and beyond to make the lives of nearly 25\,000 children living in PHA developments and apartments better. His mission to help children expands beyond the walls of the houses managed by PHA\, making him a real standout. He instills pride in the children living in PHA in small ways like making sure they start school with a bundle of brand-new school supplies and backpacks. And in big ways like raising $2.5 million dollars for college scholarships. Thanks to his leadership\, 645 youth and young adults living in a PHA home could afford college. He opened a high school that was shuttered by the Philadelphia School District in one of the most distressed neighborhoods in the city and a Youth and Family Center that provides services for an entire family to become self-sufficient. \nWe know that there are many worthy causes and amazing regional leaders to honor\, but we urge you to join Children First and our special Celebration host\, Estelle Richman\, to honor Kelvin A. Jeremiah\, President and CEO of the Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA) as our 2023 Champion for Children for the work he’s led at the PHA to improve the lives of children living in public housing. In doing so\, you’ll be among a growing list of corporations\, organizations and individuals that are actively improving the future for children. \nTickets and Sponsorship\n\nClick here to purchase TICKETS \nClick here to purchase Individual Sponsorships \nClick here for Corporate Sponsorship opportunities \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:For Mother’s Day\, Don’t Send Me Flowers - Fund Child Care!
DESCRIPTION:The partners of the Start Strong PA Campaign are asking for your help in advocating on behalf of Pennsylvania’s Child Care Teachers this Mother’s Day as part of our “Don’t Send Me Flowers – Fund Child Care” effort. \nThe Pennsylvania child care sector is in crisis. Unlivable wages in this sector are causing a historic workforce shortage that is closing classrooms and driving up wait lists for working mothers and families. Child care providers can’t raise teacher wages because families are already struggling to afford the costs of care. They are also struggling to compete in a labor market with many sectors offering $20+ per hour for largely unskilled positions. \nJoin us in Harrisburg on Tuesday\, May 9\, 2023 at 10am in the Capitol Rotunda. \nContact Mai Miksic if you can join us: maim@childrenfirstpa.com

SUMMARY:Mayoral Candidate Forum on Afterschool & Youth Workforce Development
DESCRIPTION:Philadelphia is in the midst of a gun violence pandemic that threatens the very safety of our children. Afterschool\, out-of-school time (OST)\, and youth workforce development programs can serve as a means to keep our children safe during the later hours in the day\, while furthering their educations\, social skills and career goals. \nWhat are the mayoral candidates doing to ensure that these programs are provided and well-funded? \nThe Kids Campaign is convening a forum for candidates to discuss their plans for afterschool and OST programs once their elected to office. Join us to hear each candidate’s plan directly and for the possibility to ask the candidates questions on issues impacting your children. \nCome\, too\, if you are looking for or need help with summer program opportunities. A resource fair featuring chances to apply for summer jobs\, sign up for physicals\, and help getting work documents will precede the candidate forum. \nDate: Monday\, May 1\, 2023 \nLocation: Friends Center\, 1501 Cherry St.\, Philadelphia\, PA 19102 \n\n4:00pm – 5:00 (summer work resource fair) \n5:00pm – 6:30 (candidate forum)\n6:30pm – 7:00 (networking and resource fair
