The Philadelphia Education Fund said Monday it has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Lenfest Foundation and a $40,000 grant from Peco Energy Co. to support ArtsRising, a collaborative program to make arts education available to children throughout the region.

The program is an initiative of the Philadelphia Education Fund, Fleisher Art Memorial and Public Citizens for Children and Youth, all of which are based in Philadelphia. It is working with community members near five public middle schools in Philadelphia — CCA Baldi, Dimner Beeber, Warren G. Harding, John B. Stetson and Grover Washington Jr.

The West Conshohocken, Pa.-based Lenfest Foundation was established by H. F. “Gerry” Lenfest, who turned to philanthropy after selling his Oaks, Pa. cable-television firm to Philadelphia-based Comcast Corp. (NASDAQ:CMCSA,CMCSK) for $7.2 billion in 2000.

Peco is a Philadelphia-based electricity and natural-gas distributor. It’s a subsidiary of Chicago-based Exelon Corp. (NYSE:EXC)

ArtsRising has previously received a grant of $400,000 from the Wallace Foundation, which is based in New York, and grants of $481,000 from the William Penn Foundation, $105,000 from the Mayor’s Inaugural Campaign, $40,000 from the Samuel S. Fels Fund and $20,000 from the Lincoln Financial Foundation, all of which are based in or near Philadelphia.
